Survey of sports

Sports policy in the district is formed by the District of Anyksciai Municipal Board and the Mayor’s Institution. Sports policy in the district is coordinated by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports and the department’s specialist responsible for the administration of sports. It is implemented by these institutions: Anyksciai Physical Culture and Sports Center, Sports Clubs, Public Institutions within the territory of the district of Anyksciai municipality.

Anyksciai Physical Culture and Sports Center (PCSC) is a budget institution which mission is to enable the development of person’s athletic talents, promote healthy life style skills of the community members, prepare highly skilled athletes to represent the district and the county in the international level competitions, organize and implement physical culture and sports events in the district, provide with the methodical information. 21 couches are working in the Anyksciai Physical Culture and Sports Center: 9 are national category couches, 10 are Lithuanian sports couches, and 2 couches. All of them have a college degree or a license. Currently, 479 kids participate in sports, 37 different skill levels are approved, eleven different sports are practiced which are: basketball, swimming, Greco-Roman wrestling, weight lifting, skiing, biathlon, soccer, checkers, avia modeling, karate Koykushin, equestrian sport.

PCSC members participate in the International and European championships, republic’s games in different age groups, country’s championships and other international and republic competitions. PCSC members represent Lithuanian teams in various age groups: 14 boys and girls, 11 youth, 7 adult.

There 19 sports clubs according to the sports branches and activity. 600 members participate in those clubs, out of which 180 women. 19 sports are cultivated in the district, such as: basketball, soccer, skiing, biathlon, karate Koykushin, equestrian sport, motorcycle sport, weight lifting, Greco-Roman wrestling, aikido, auto sport and karting, bodybuilding, swimming, DanceSport. The best members of the sports clubs and PCSC make up the sports teams and represent the Anyksciai district in various competitions.

Pupils’ sports. 26 physical culture teachers with college degree are working in Anyksciai district schools.

Schools organize intra-school tournaments, cross country running competitions, various fitness and sports holidays during which they try to enhance kids’ physical activity, to ascertain the best.

School teams participate in various district sports competitions, students’ Olympic festival competition. The winners of the district Olympic festival competitions participate in the final student Olympic festival competitions. All district schools and total of 4541 participants have registered to take part in the Olympic festival during 2008-2009 school year.

Adult sports. Adult teams have been participating in various sports competitions organized during mass holiday “Run Run Steed” and City’s Holidays, local municipalities’ organized holidays and sports competitions. The most active athletic activity is taking place in Troskunai local municipality. The most favorite sport is basketball. Quite a bit of teams participate in the New Year basketball tournament and three against three basketball matches in the district. Anyksciai veteran basketball teams participate in different age group championships in the country.
Professional sports. Anyksciai sports club “Puntukas” takes part in the National Basketball league’s competitions. The club is a sovereign legal entity which has its administration and which relations with couches and players are based on contracts.
Soccer club “Anyksciai” participates in the Lithuanian first league championship.

Currently the best Anyksciai athlete is Giedrius Titenis, an international swimming master, Anyksciai PCSC alumnus and the Beijing Olympics 12th place winner.

Sports and fitness events. District’s sporting life is enriched by sports and fitness events. The biggest events are these: international swimming sprint festival “Anyksciai” organized by public institution “Health Oasis” (lt. “Sveikatos oaze”), international V. Zmoginas memorial Greco-Roman wrestling tournament organized by sports club “Oak” (lt. Azuolas”), DanceSport tournament “Saltus Cup” organized by DanceSport club “Saltus”, mass events, such as: run Anyksciai – Puntukas boulder – Anyksciai organized by PCSC, “Bicycle Marathon cup” organized by biathlon club “Weathervane” (lt. “Vetrunge”), Lithuanian strongmen championship.

Sporting facilities. There are these sports facilities in the district: one enclosed 25 meter swimming pool, one basketball arena, 19 gyms, 8 stadiums, 6 courts, 10 outdoor basketball courts, 1 universal court with a man made tuft for soccer, tennis or basketball, 3 athletic gymnastics halls, 2 weight lifting rooms, 1 auto and karting racing track, 1 beach volleyball court, 1 rollerblade and skateboard square. Two sports objects, Anyksciai School of Technology enclosed 25 meter swimming pool and JSC “the Four Mountains” basketball arena, meet the standards allowing them to organize Lithuanian championships and some international competitions, and city’s stadium partially meets soccer federation standards making it suitable for the country’s soccer championship competitions.
